Sally the Witch, original flavor, looking less moeified than usual.

Oh this cracks me up.

At the top: The parents of Sally the Witch, the first magical girl, whose anime came out in 1966.

At the bottom: The parents of Majokko Tsukune-chan, whose show is a parody of Sally’s subgenre.

Lol @ the token black censor line.  “Conceptual drawing” indeed.

A Magical Girl tea party: Sally the Witch, Minky Momo, Sailor Moon, Doremi Harukaze, and Madoka Kaname, and their respective Cute Annoying Things.

Sally the Witch (1966)

The very first Magical Girl series, Sally the Witch was partly inspired by the American sitcom Bewitched.  The story focuses on Sally, the princess of the witch world, who relocates to the human world in order to make friends and have magical hijinks.  Like many of her Magical Girl descendants, Sally must keep her magical identity a secret, and she must say a specific phrase and use a magical trinket (her baton) in order to access her powers.

Here’s the original black-and-white OP from 1966.
